Can Short Videos Harm Our Minds?

Can Short Videos Harm Our Minds?

A 2025 meta-analysis by researchers from Griffith University, Australia, analyzed 71 studies involving 98,299 participants. The study found that people who spent more time watching short-form videos were more likely to have problems with attention and thinking skills. The strongest relationship was found in attention (r = -0.38), followed by self-control (r = -0.41) and overall thinking ability (r = -0.34). Because short videos provide quick entertainment, the brain may become used to fast rewards and constant stimulation. As a result, people may find it harder to focus on difficult tasks and carry out activities that require deep thinking for a long time.
